Duties and Responsibilities
Senior Network Engineer common duties typically include:
Design and Deploy Networks: Create and implement functional networks, including Local Area Networks (LANs), Wireless LANs (WLANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs) and SDWAN.
Infrastructure Configuration: Configure and install software, routers, switches and other network devices and appliances.
Troubleshooting: Resolve escalated issues by troubleshooting both cloud-based and local infrastructure. Excellent communications skills working with users and or the team when assisting to resolve network issues.
Change Management: Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
Performance Monitoring: Monitor network performance and integrity to identify and address any issues.
Security Measures: Design, oversee, and test security measures such as access authentication and disaster recovery.
Documentation: Maintain complete technical documentation.
Performance Improvements: Suggest enhancements to network performance, capacity, and scalability.
This position requires regular, predictable, and timely attendance at work to meet department workload demands.
Skills and Qualifications
Senior Network Engineer are detail-oriented individuals with strong technical expertise and multitasking skills. They thrive in an agile, fast-paced environment, and they keep abreast of innovations, regulation changes, and other industry developments.
Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, or related field required.
5+ years industry experience with very strong knowledge in network technologies and incident management
Network professional with CCNP/CCIE certification or equivalent level of experience working in a 3rdline infrastructure role along with exceptional analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, and problem management abilities.
Demonstrable track record of support and troubleshooting of core network enterprise infrastructure and devices around Cisco, Palo Alto, F5, and Meraki.
In depth understanding and strong troubleshooting skills across all key technologies in Enterprise Data Center and Client LAN Networks (e.g. OSPF, BGP, HSRP, TCP/IP & UDP, VLAN, QoS, ACL, LACP, VPC, VRF, SNMP, SSH, IPSec, GRE, EIGRP, VTP, Static Routes and macro-segmentation
In depth understanding and strong troubleshooting skills across WAN technologies (e.g. SDWAN) and Firewalls will be (e.g. Palo Alto 3400, 5400, 1400, and 440 series)
Experience with VeloCloud
Experience with Cisco Router and Switches is essential (e.g. Cisco, N7Ks, fabric extenders and Meraki)
Experience with activation, test, and turn up for new dedicated internet circuits migrations.
Tools of the Trade
A Senior Network Engineer should be familiar and comfortable with:
Well-known tools such as Panorama, ManageEngine, Forescout, VeloCloud, Wireshark and Virtual Network Lab for simulation and troubleshooting (GNS3, EVE-NG).
